Admissions Policy and Enrollment Process

Admissions Policy

Youngset Preschool admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs. We do require children to have age-appropriate bathroom skills before attending. Concretely, this means: Out of diapers and pull-ups, willing to try to use the toilet when prompted, able to say when they need to use the bathroom or working towards that skill, and independent in the bathroom or working towards independence.

Youngset maintains a waitlist for each school year. Parents may place a child on a waitlist from birth up to the time a child is age eligible for enrollment. The waitlist is kept in the following order:

  1. Returning students

    Siblings of Youngset Alumni*

    Children of Youngset Alumni *

Children from the waiting list, by order of inquiry

*Youngset alumni families qualify for priority registration provided they place the prospective student on the waiting list within: 18 months from date of birth, 18 months from date of adoption or 6 months of older sibling entering into Youngset’s Preschool program.

During the time that a family is on the waitlist, the position may change as families drop off the list, returning families add younger siblings to the list, or an alumni of Youngset returns with his/her child.

Every year, two groups of children are enrolled: Juniors (3 year-olds on or before September 1st) and Seniors (4 year-olds on or before September 1st). There is a maximum enrollment of 15 children per day in the Junior class and 17 children per day in the Senior class. Students may attend 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week.  All students are guaranteed a minimum of 3 days per week if initially requested. Requests for 4 or 5 days per week are honored as space is available. Children entering both the junior and senior classes need to be out of diapers and pull-ups and toilet independent.

If the Junior class has not reached maximum enrollment by June 1st, students born after the September 1st cutoff may be added at the teacher’s discretion. The Registrar will contact interested families at that time. Because students must be at least 3 years of age to attend Youngset, children born after the September 1st cutoff will need to wait until turning 3 to enroll.

The Enrollment Process

Prior to Enrollment - To apply to our program and be added to our application queue, please complete the enrollment application as it determines placement. You may fill out the application as early as date of birth. Your enrollment application will be processed in the order it is received (see Admissions Policy above). No money is necessary to be placed in the application queue.

You must either attend the Open House or make alternate arrangements for a tour in order for your application to be considered. It’s extremely important that families joining our community understand both the benefits and responsibilities of a cooperative preschool.

Fall - Registrar emails families on the waitlists to confirm who is still interested for the upcoming school year.

Early December - Registrar will request open house RSVPs along with providing tuition details to all families on the waitlists and enrollment forms to those at the top of the waitlists.

Late January - Families may attend the open houses (optional). It is a great opportunity to meet our outstanding teachers, ask questions, visit classrooms and become acquainted with other prospective families.

January 27th, 2024 - In-Person Open House (email our Registrar to enroll)

January 29th, 2024* - Enrollment forms will be sent to the the families at the top of the waitlist.

February 9th, 2024* - Enrollment forms and initial deposits are due for families at the top of the waitlist. If the registrar has not received an enrollment form and payment for a top family by this date, they will lose their place and the next family on the waitlist will be contacted.

Late February* - Confirmed schedules will be sent to initial families enrolled.

*These dates will be updated each fall for the upcoming school year.

After the initial enrollment period, the registrar will work down the waitlist and contact families as necessary to fill the classes. There can be quite a bit of movement on the waitlists. When a space becomes available, the Registrar will contact the next family on the waitlist and let them know what days are available. The new family will have 24 hours to tell the Registrar whether they would like the spot.
